TransCanada conference
Faculty staff and PhD students are invited to participate in TransCanada: Literature, Institutions, Citizenship, a major conference to be held on June 23-26, 2005, at the Wosk Centre for Dialogue, Vancouver. Keynote speakers will be Diana Brydon (UWO) and Daniel Coleman (McMaster); respondents to keynote speakers will be Rinaldo Walcott (York U) and Peter Dickinson (UBC), respectively. The conference’s primary goal is to generate rigorous discussion of the study of Canadian literature as a field that is produced in the context of globalizing processes and critical methodologies but also in that of national institutional structures such as the Humanities, the cultural industries, curricula, and anthologies. Various elements make this conference particularly innovative.
The deadline for participation is 15 November, 2004.

In order to encourage student participation to 'Canada from the outside in', the biennial ICCS conference in Ottawa (May 25 to 27, 2005), the ICCS will cover the accommodation expenses in Ottawa for five students who will be invited to act as commentators and assist with the organizing during the ICCS biennial conference to be held in collaboration with the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. Each of these students will be asked to give a five to ten minute commentary--in either English or French--at the end of a session, in order to share his or her thoughts on the session and to engage the public in discussion. Efforts will be made to send the texts for the presentations for which the students will provide commentary to the selected students as soon as possible.
