ACSN Seminar
On the 28th of November, the Association for Canadian Studies in the Netherlands organized their annual seminar. This year it was titled 'Art and functionality: from Blackfoot to robot'. 09/12/2003![]()
Dutch undergraduates wanted
The Canadian government is looking for Dutch undergraduates to attend the Canadian International Model United Nations in Ottawa, March 11-15. The organization's website is www.canimun.org. The event is reputed to be one of the best run and most intensive and educational events of its kind in the world. It includes Embassy briefings and seminars by some of Canada's top diplomats, politicians and civil servants. The target age group is senior undergraduates in their 3rd or 4th year of study. 09/12/2003
Prof. André Loiselle visits University of Groningen

around the Blackfoot exhibition in the Kunsthal in Rotterdam, a

Linking communities, universities and museums through artistic inquiry: The Kamloops experience
On 2 July, 2003, Dr. Lon Dubinsky spoke at the National Museum of Ethnology in Leiden.
At the talk of Lon Dubinsky, co-organised by the ACSN and supported by the Canadian embassy in the Hague, about 20 people were present of many different backgrounds. There were academics as well as artists. Besides Lon Dubinsky, Ross Nelson and Jann Bailey spoke as well. The afternoon ended with a lively discussion and a visit to the museum of ethnology.

New ACSN president

Crossing Cultures Conference in Groningen
At the International Conference Crossing Cultures, organized on 19-21 May 2003 by the Institute for North-American Studies of the University of Groningen, scholars from seven different countries discussed a variety of topics related to the trope of travel and shifting cultural spaces in North America.16/06/2003![]()
Yolande Villemaire writes on the Netherlands
After having spent three months in Amsterdam as part of a writer's exchange program, she has published a novel describing the Netherlands and her experiences during her stay. 15/06/2003![]()
Lon Dubinsky speaking in Leiden
On 2 July 2003, Dr. Lon Dubinsky will speak in the National Museum of Ethnology in Leiden on the subject of "Linking Communities, Universities and Museums through Artistic Inquiry: The Kamloops Experience".15/06/2003![]()
Call for students' papers
The European Network for Canadian Studies, in collaboration with the Spanish Canadian Studies Association, is organising the 12th European Seminar for Graduate Work in Canadian Studies to be held in Barcelona in October. Master's and doctoral students are invited to present their research findings. 15/06/2003

ICCS conference on Transculturalisms: diversity and metamorphosis
The International Council for Canadian Studies organized the above conference on May 22-24, 2003 in Montreal, Canada. At this conference six international research teams showed their findings with regard to:
- Patterns of Cultural Transfer
- Between Place and Space: the ´Trans´
- Canadian Métissage/Hybridity: Between, Among, within Cultures
- The Americas: Traversals and Transfigurations
- Packaging the everyday culture of Canada
- Effectiveness of Cultural Protectionism
The proceedings will be published in the International Journal of Canadian Studies (IJCS).
ICCS International Summer Seminars, August 2003
The ICCS Summer Seminars will be held in Ottawa, Ontario, August 18-22, 2003 and in Calgary, Alberta, August 25-29, 2003. The ACSN will forward its recommendations to the ICCS by May 20, 2003. The ICCS will match to a ratio of 2 to 1 (to a maximum of C$850) the scholarships offered to participants.

Discount on airfares for ACSN members
