Yolande Villemaire writes on The Netherlands

As announced earlier, the Quebec writer Yolande Villemaire has been invited to participate in a writer's exchange programme between Canada and The Netherlands and had the opportunity to spend three months in Amsterdam in the winter of 2002 to discover the literary climate of the Netherlands. She has since then published a charming novel inspired by this stay which, according to Canadian ciritics, has the 'clarity of a Dutch Master's sky'. The novel has already been translated into English and will soon be published in Italian.

Some comments that will please Dutch speaking readers: she cites the famous phrase 'Hebban olla vogala nestas hagunnan, hinase hic enda thu', she describes a doorzonwoning as well as the beautiful exposition of Repin which took place in the Groningen Museum at that time. In conclusion: La déferlante means 'The wave'.
